Ruined Egyptian Tomb

ABOUT

An “Uncharted / Tomb Raider”-inspired level. I wanted to make a linear level but with a small central open area that the player could explore, so I got the idea to have the player crisscross the area vertically to get to the entrance of the tomb. This was done to make the player feel as if they were sneaking into this abandoned tomb and being resourceful or observant. I also played around with color-coding the blockout to see what is too much color-coding or what is not enough color-coding. Egyptian tombs are gigantic, so I wanted to keep a sense of scale in the level, so I specifically laid out the lead up to the tomb so that when the player arrives, the stairs guide your perspective up, creating a striking visual heightening the scale of the tomb itself, and attracting the player further in where they will find the first set of climbable structures. The same tactic was used with the inner tomb, although with an added light fixture.
